Bamboo “city parks” in the slums of Nairobi

Huruma slum bamboo-7405

As part of its social profile / ambition, but also as a business concept, Waterstone Resource Fiber has led several initiatives to engage and train unemployed youth in Nairobi slums in the use and value of bamboo. These youth have subsequently planted and cared for bamboo along streams through the slums, with support from Waterstone, creating visually attractive, shaded areas for the inhabitants, protecting the streambanks from erosion, and providing a cash crop for the youth involved.
